I'm with gasmanhoss, asking questions. We really want a good safe area to live, rent for a while. We want our daughter to go to a good school. I will also be looking for a job. I am a T.A, I work with special needs kids so I am looking for a school job. Does anyone know where to start for that? We need a nice rental, fenced back yard, takes pets, close to everything, but a nice county area. Any help will be great.

Handicapped development center. Always hiring. Two locations but the one on hickory Grove is where you turn in the application.

They're not connected to the school systems other than some higher functioning kids still need someone to go thru their school day with them. But idk how that works exactly.

HDC is mostly 18+ yr olds. Or lower functioning kids that don't go to school. (I could be wrong about most of this.. I just used to date a woman that worked there.)

That's awesome info, thanks so much. Usually my job with them would be going with the kids to there classes to help them if they need help. I can do that. Thanks so much, I will check into this.

The idea that Central is a school to be avoided is absolutely false. North and West have their share of issues as well, as all schools do, even suburban ones like Bettendorf. North AND West have a higher percentage of kids eligible for free and reduced lunch than Central does. There are a lot of negative perceptions about Central, but nearly all of them are outdated and false. It is a fantastic school, with 100+ years of community pride and alumni involvement. The music program is extremely highly regarded as well, and the building is currently getting a new swimming pool and auditorium addition. Most of the same perception vs reality stuff applies to Sudlow as well, although I'm not going to take the the time compare it to all the other junior high schools.

Thanks for this info about the school. My daughter was in band for 7th & 8th grade. She loves band. This gives us something to think about.

I know 2 families that pulled there kids out of central. I know that central needs a strong police presense outside everyday when school lets out. North and west don't. Ymmv.
