Not sure how the NFL works, but can Iowa locals air any of the surrounding teams such as Vikings, Bears, Packers, and Chiefs or do they have to have set contracts for x amount of years with the teams for certain local stations? Say for example Des Moines Locals will air Chiefs while the Quad City locals will air the Bears. Thanks

The local TV stations can air whatever game/team they choose.

I grew up in northern Iowa, and we got all the Viking's games. Living in Des Moines, we get a lot of Viking games, but also good mix of Packers and Bears too. A lot simply depends on which team is having a better year and who they are playing. In the end, it is all about TV ratings. Since Chiefs are AFC, they pretty much have CBS station here in Des Moines.

The contracts are between the networks and the league, not the individual teams or station. Under the current contract, Sunday afternoon AFC games are on CBS and NFC games are on Fox, NBC has Sunday night games, ESPN carries Monday Night Football, and the NFL Network carries Thursday Night Football.

I wasn't suggesting anything was done at the team level. My point was CBS carries AFC and the Chiefs are the only AFC team in the area. On the other side, Vikes, Pack, and Bears are NFC and thus all on Fox so they have to battle it out for airtime in DM. Some years, the local Fox affiliate even let viewers vote which games they would carry each Sunday.
