This type of discourse is IMO what lost the democrats a whole lot of moderate dem and independent votes.

People had concerns, weren't happy with Hillary and instead of listening to their concerns they labeled them "racist" or "misogynist".

The fact that people held their nose and voted for Trump is apparently lost on people just how bad that message stunk.

Obama was the Democrat's version of Ben Carson or Herman Caine. He was an ideological Oreo who didn't scare off white voters. Obama could win Iowa because he didn't seem like a black man, even though he was one.

Iowans are not overtly racist people, like you find in the South. They're closeted racists, who will publicly support black politicians (as long as they talk white) but Iowans secretly harbor resentment towards the African-American community. It's just not fashionable in Iowa to openly talk about that resentment.

So, they vote for people who will "Make America Great Again" knowing full well that the biggest part of making America great again -- in their minds -- is achieved by forcing minorities to the back of the bus.

Well as far as Iowa is concerned, that's not too unusual at all. Many black Iowans have either mild or non-existent Southern accents, usually owing to the fact that they were raised in a predominantly-Caucasian area.

You're more likely to encounter thicker accents in places like Waterloo, however.

P.S. Hillary supporters were called racist in 2008. Sanders supporters were called racist and anti-women this year. At some point, it becomes ridiculous.

Yeah and consider the moderates and independents that held their nose and voted for Trump because they hated Hillary just a little bit more.

They were probably Obama voters in past elections and now everyone is calling them racist.

People remember stuff like that, it's really alienating voters which isn't smart.

I live in Des Moines. I have lived in 5 states and spent time in 30. This place is NOT racist. Folks get along just fine. In fact being black here can be an advantage. The fire dept, te police force etc. is currently aggressively recruiting minorities. They are even advertising on local commercials and te news that they want to hire blacks in particular, almost every day.
