Iowa State Obesity Data, Rates and Trends: The State of Obesity Dated info , but no wonder. Reading some of that stuff makes me sick. But when you aren't used to dumping that crap into your body.

Heard on NPR, Iowa has 1.6 million people that are classified as obese. Out of a population of 3.1 million.

I have attended that fair many times although its been 30+years.

"On-a-stick" is the food-group base of my nutrition-pyramid.

It isn't meant to be eaten everyday. Go back to California with your abrasive approach.

People that are obese in Iowa are not so because of the 10-day-a-year Iowa State Fair.

Wow, I bet you're just the life of every party you attend. Or crash, as in this case. Anyway, we all know fair food isn't the healthiest, regardless of the state it's held in. I'm not normally a "state" fair person (prefer county fairs), but I'm looking forward to experiencing the famous Iowa State Fair this year! Thanks OP for the list!

One trip to the fair to eat a lot of crazy stuff won't make you fat... At least you're also probably walking around all day in the heat. Ya gotta have some fun once in a while!

I eat healthful things most of the time. Not at the fair! Looking forward to bacon-anything!

I had actually posted this in Food.. But they decided to move it over here.

I'm actually coming up from SC to see it. Well.. and to visit my dad who lives in Des Moines, but..

Since this got moved over to the Iowa forum.. Let me pose a question for you all.. What would be your pick for best restaurant in Des Moines for seafood and best for steak? No chains.. I don't go 1500 miles to eat at a place I could go to here.

I'm looking at Iowa Beef Steakhouse and Jesse's Embers.. Those good? Someone told me one of them you cook your own.. If so, that's a no.. I'm not paying to cook my own damn steak..

What about seafood, though? Who does that well? I know.. Not exactly alot of oceans around there, but.. Figure someone has a connection..

Best Steakhouse - hands down -- 801 Steak and Chop. 801 Chophouse - Des Moines Steakhouse & Fine Dining Question is: do you want to spend that much? It will be a memorable meal....no doubt about it. If not, I'd go: 1) Chicago Speakeasy 2) Jesse's, 3) Iowa Steakhouse (distant 3rd).

Best Seafood: Splash or Waterfront (2 locations). Both fly in their seafood, so it is fresh. Splash is downtown and probably a touch more expensive than Waterfront.
