So what's your opinion on the quad cities now? You must have visited your girlfriend and the area a few times by now.

Yes - I've visited her several times actually lol. I really like it and am in the process of trying to relocate with my current employer. Will keep you posted to see how it goes in the future.

I know it sounds like you've made up your mind, but I will say this about Dubuque. It definitely is in a more scenic setting plus it has an aquarium (I believe the only one in the state of Iowa). I know not everyone is into hiking, fall foliage, and waving at river otters, but to some people that does count for something. Especially when Northeast Iowa is the closest thing the state has to "mountainous" terrain.

The Quads of course have much more to offer since it's about 4-5 times larger than Dubuque, plus it's a lot less isolated (it's 3 hours each way to Des Moines and Chicago). It's comparable to the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor, and Peoria.

The townhouses behind Old Chicago are pretty inexpensive for Bettendorf. Great location. You're about a block from the 74 on ramp and a few blocks from Elmore Ave.. Which is the main shopping, restaurants, movie theater drag.

74 takes you directly to the places in Illinois you're most likely to visit...

The tax slayer center (Everyone still calls it The Mark)...The avenue of the cities (everyone still calls it 23rd Avenue)...John deere express way (The Illinois' side main shopping, restaurants, movie theater drag) ... And the airport.

Take 74 to the first Illinois exit. Hang a left follow it to The District in Rock Island. It's a few square block area full of bars, clubs, restaurants.

I'll second that. This is where I lived when I was in the QC and I loved it. Just a perfect location.

No complex name. Just a couple blocks full of townhouses.

Do you folks think it would be best to rent a house at $1400 a month or go for an apartment for a 1100-1200 rent? It would be for about 4 months until I can find permanent housing or move in with a signifant other.
