My husband and I are looking to retire in Iowa. We are looking at Plymouth, Cherokee or O'Brien counties. Any information would be helpful. Looking for medium range for property taxes, nice area to live relatively safe. Near a large town about 10 to 30 miles away for shopping. We are hoping to find a house with some acreage. Any flooding in that area? Not worried about snow, we currently live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where we get plenty of snow. Thank you in advance.

Plymouth County sounds like a good match for your criteria. It is closest to the largest city in that region(Sioux City). Route 75 is the main north/south highway connecting Le Mars to Sioux City, and is mostly four lanes(generally well maintained by plows in winter snows). Plenty of farms and houses with acreage in that area. Unless you live next to the Big Sioux River, large creek, or in a low-lying area no need to be overly concerned about flooding. Hope this information was of assistance.
