My wife and I are traveling through Iowa along I-29 and we're are curious if the interstate is effective at all by the recent flooding?

I'm sure you're aware of what's happening now, but just in case.... I just heard that I-29 is closed, I think from Kansas City to north of Omaha. People I know who usually drive I-29 were being diverted to I-35, a hundred miles east, to get home. The last time I-29 was closed like this it remained closed for several months.

You're very right. My son lives south of Council Bluffs. He says that the flooding already is worse than the disastrous flooding from 2011 AND it's supposed to get worse until Tuesday. He and many others have spent the last couple days sandbagging and helping people move their belonging. Many of these people have NEVER been flooded before. The Interstate is closed just south of Council Bluffs well into Missouri. Not only is the Missouri flooding, but there is a tremendous amount of water coming from west and central Nebraska via the Platte River. I also heard that the interstate north of Council Bluffs up to Missouri Valley is also closed.

Get this. In NE South Dakota the snow pack has 6" - 10" of
WATER content that is just beginning to melt. This will come down the James River and Big Sioux River around this weekend. Both rivers empty into the Missouri River. The James River below the Gavins Point Dam at Yankton SD and the Big Sioux River at Sioux City. All of this will nail western Iowa and eastern Nebraska AGAIN come next week.
