Out of its total 7,252 MW of electric generating capacity (0.67% of the U.S. total), Alliant Energy gets 55.9% from coal, 28.3% from natural gas, 8.2% from nuclear, 6.7% from oil, and 0.5% from hydroelectric.

Out of its total 14,411 megawatts (MW) of electric generating capacity in 2005 (1.35% of the U.S. total), MidAmerican produced 71.3% from coal, 15.3% from natural gas, 7.9% from hydroelectricity, 2.6% from geothermal, 2.5% from wind, and 0.4% from oil.

Thanks for your research though the numbers appear a little dated. You just put creedence to my theory as to the main difference between the 2 company's rates. The percent that is coal stands out. What also stands out is the percentage that is wind. Central Iowa is covered in wind turbines and have been since 2005, yet between BOTH energy giants, the total megawatts percentage was only 2.5%.

Just imagine how many wind turbines and solar panels we will need to satisfy those beating the drum for our country to jump on the bandwagon of the "Green New Deal".

As of 2014, 30% of MidAmerican energy was produced by wind turbines.
