"Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday announced the “This Is Iowa" campaign in an effort to encourage more people to visit, live and work in the state.

The mission behind the campaign is to spark economic growth in the state and to close the skills gap between employee training levels and the needs of businesses."

I don't know about Iowa, but I actually see a surprising number of New York license plates here in Indiana.

It might be, but I’m not sure. Iowa does have a real problem with a shortage of workers to fill jobs and keeping people in Iowa, especially college graduates. I’d be interested to hear what others think.

I saw the real estate video this morning, I thought it was pretty clever.

Low salaries, high property taxes, and unpredictable weather are the culprits. Unfortunately, the factor that can't be helped, is also the biggest deal-breaker of the three.

Agree. Another factor for many is the humidity (for those from the West) and lack of "real mountains," which my brother and younger daughter complain about when it comes to outdoor activities in Iowa.

I haven't lived in Iowa since 2003, but it feels like the state has an identity crisis.

On one hand you have websites like this that are trying to present it as more than a flyover state, and on the other hand you have articles coming out of the Des Moines Register about how Iowa is the #1 producer for human and animal waste in the nation.

That's DISGUSTING, and unfortunately when people see stories like this, that's what sticks... not the painted pianos in downtown DSM.
