Hello. I currently live in St. Louis. My husband has taken a job in Waterloo, and we would like to rent for about a year before we buy a home. We are looking for a house to rent in either Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Hudson or somewhere else close. Preferably 3 bedrooms and we also have a dog. Does anyone know of a suitable property? I haven't had much luck looking on the internet. Thanks!

Have any of you found anything in the classifieds of the Waterloo newspaper? Wow, it looks like Waterloo will be growing.

Default Rentals

I have looked in the paper - I was actually looking more for a referral since you never know how a landlord will be until you are actually there. We are very excited about relocating to the area

We rented in Waterloo and Cedar Falls.
We had a great duplex the first time, and then a two bedroom home the second time. They are just wonderful to rent from, and I wouldn't hesitate to contact them.
There are some areas of Waterloo I would absolutely NOT recommend. The downtown area is not on the top of my list whatsoever. The east side in general ( any address such as East 9th) gets you somewhere that crime rate is probably up and the housing quality down.
Kittrell Elementary school is a nice school and the area in it's vicinity is nice as long as you don't inch too close to La Porte Road. This is a strip road with fast food and businesses, and gets you close to Crossroads mall.
To be honest, my strongest recommendation would be Cedar Falls, a mere 15 minutes or less away to commute to a Waterloo job.
Aside from the areas right by campus rented to students, I like basically all of CF.
They have very middle class neighborhoods with mostly ranch style houses...older bungalowes or houses with sweeping lawns and large porches closer to the campus and downtown area....newer housing areas....VERY ritzy sections...a nice variety , each with it's own flavor.
There is a very different feel to CF, and Peet Junior High as well as CF High School have EXCELLENT reputations for those with kids.
The downtown is much more alive, but very quaint with curving roads, unique shops, and tree lined streets. People actually walk around downtown, and they have a bike trail.
CF over Waterloo any time!
Run places past me if you are uncertain of the area. I will be as detailed as I can with regards to schools, streets, etc.

Default Looking to get out of very bad living situation

I am looking for a house or duplex to rent in Cedar Falls. I have lived here all my life, and I want to get out of a bad living situation. Right now I and my teenage son are in a very small apartment. It is very noisy and not quiet at all. And extremely small. We are so cramped. I am looking specifically for landlord names that I could contact for help. I have a cat so he must be allowed. He is part of the family. This has been extremely hard for me to do. I have not had much luck. I am also recieving section 8 rental assistance (what single parent doesnt?) so I would have to find a place that would continue to accept it. If anyone has any names of real nice landlords it would be a big help to me.

I would try an apartment along Maplewood in Cedar Falls. If you don't mind typical college problems, like loud music, then I'd say go for it. Very safe and close to public transportation and right behind the mall.

That is where I am living right now. The management is terrible and I have a neighbor that lives directly above me with very noisy kids. Its like living in a battlezone. Management has not done anything about it and the neighbor is not very nice. That is why I want out. I used to live in a nice duplex here and I really miss it. It was more like a house.
