How influential is being a University of Iowa graduate in the day to day life of Iowans? The Midwest in general?

Is there an advantage to being a Hawkeye as opposed to being a Cyclone or being a graduate of another small school?

Iowa is mostly a Hawkeye state. It wont really influence daily life except for conversations maybe. You won't get seated any faster for wearing the black and gold for instance.

I know many hardcore Hawk fans, me being one of them!

Yeah...that's a very odd question if you ask me. It is not like Iowa is an Ivy League school or something similar.

Where is this coming from?

really not that odd... a lot of states are crazy about a certain team and seriously treat people differently. like ... nebraska.

UI is no pushover nationally.

I guess I just wanted to know how graduates are regarded professionally and socially in the state of Iowa. For instance, do Hawkeye resumes tend to find their way to the top of the pile? If you know what I mean? Is it easier to network? Stuff like that.

If you're going for an urban planning job that doesn't involve social work in the Hawkeye state, you're at a disadvantage to those undergoing the much better planning program at ISU.

There is ALWAYS an advantage to being a Hawkeye over a Cyclone, for one thing, you'll be a Hawkeye instead of a Cyclone and for another you won't have to live in LAmes

Ah, but Tippie at UI is a much more highly regarded program than the business school at ISU. It depends on what the particular employer is more interested in, the MBA or the Urban Planning degree.
