Hi all,

I was just wondering how the downturn in the Iowa biodiesel/ethanol market was affecting Iowa land values and the Iowan economy as a whole.

I'm looking to buy some hunting land in the next year. A lot of it comes with farmland, but I'm wondering if now is a bad time to buy. Seems like land prices may have peaked and are heading down.

Far as I know, although some of the ethanol plants went bankrupt, they were sold to new owners and will remain operational. I don't believe farmland is going to drop in value too much, but it won't go up anytime soon. The economy is still pretty good in Iowa, but it's getting worse. The state government has to make 6% budget cuts across the board this year. Unemployment is only 4% but rising. With the drought in China, I doubt grain prices are going to drop a whole lot, if they do it will be mostly from the lower cost of fuel to plant and harvest.
