Some transplants from any area can 'ruin' any state according to the old timers that live in said area of said state, that being said, some transplants from Chicago can downright obliterate any area not just Iowa.

After seeing El Rhino's follow up, I amend my statement, the DMPD has now established beyond the shadow of a doubt the sky is not blue.

It is sad when you are more afraid of the race hucksters like Sharpton and Jackson than telling the truth.

But in this age where Black Panthers who intimidate at the voting booth have all charges dropped by the Attorney General, what can you expect?

Just for the record, people from the projects barely have the means necessary to move down the street - much less relocate all the way to freakin' Iowa. I spent quite a bit of money in gas just driving to Iowa City and back. And I didn't go there looking for a job and a place of my own to live... With little to no job qualifications and little to no money in the bank, it's an huge risk. And why would someone from the projects take this risk when there are so many other options closer to home? It doesn't make sense.

The city of Chicago is around 40% black. Cook County is around 30% black. The projects make up a VERY small percentage of the population. Just because a black guys moves to your town in Iowa and tells you from "I'm from Chicago," he could very well be from the suburbs not the projects, LOL. The fact that Iowans ASSUME he's from the projects blows my mind..

Growing up there in the 80's none of that would even have been thinkable.

And yet I stayed at a house in Iowa City where the family didn't lock their doors. And people all around town parked their car without rolling the windows up.. Coming from Chicago's south suburbs, it was very strange to me.

Why are Iowans just assuming a black person who moves in is from the projects? This is a VERY small percentage of Chicago's population.

They do here and I assume that many in Chicago do as well. Other than that, probably taking a Greyhound aka "the dirty dog".

And they still have to pull in enough cash to put a roof over their head. You know how I know the black population in Iowa City isn't ex-project residents? Because I didn't see ANY homeless people - Folks who tried to get their American dream a million miles away but failed and ended up homeless. I didn't see this.

Because as Mercruisedr said, we supply the means. It's kind of hard to go homeless when you get rent money from the good, hardworking citizens of America every month.

Are you just talking about black people? Or specifically the ones who have personally told you they used to live in the projects?

No, folks in the bottom-level income bracket can't afford cars.. If you have NO BANK ACCOUNT (and cash your paychecks at the currency exchange) and can barely afford food and rent, how the hell are you supposed to save up to buy a car? People wealthier than those in the projects can't always afford cars, LOL! This is why poor urban neighborhoods usually have nice bus systems.

If they're driving around in a car then they're probably not from the projects. They're just black.

Actually, it's very EASY to go homeless if your only source of income is gov't assistance. This is a very small amount of money. On a walk around downtown Chicago, you will see many homeless people - Unlike Iowa City.

People need to start talking to each other more. This is insane. Why would you just assume a group of people are all from the projects just because they're black?

I have seen quite a few move to Iowa from Chicago and be rudely awakened that they don't make the money they envisioned with anticipated lower cost of living.

One person told me that after all the bills were paid, they seemed like they had more money when they lived in Chicago.

Iowa is not the promised land as many expect when moving here.

If I remember correctly the number was around 12 to 15 hundred give or take a few.
I know for a fact 1, was one to many.

Around that same time a person I am acquainted with had been working for six months at a certain casino you may be familiar with known as praire meadows.
She was happy as hell at getting a job that would allow her to get a place of her own and move away from a particularly abusive character known as her ex boyfriend.
( No, despite what you may believe it was not I.)

Then vilsack brought his new tokens to town.
First he gave them a place to live,, at our expense of course.
Then he promised to find them jobs.

I am sure its no secret that political peeps of a certain ideology do not have much pull with management types in private business and industry , so he went looking in places where he had some "muscle".

The next thing my friend knows she and around four other recent hires were called to the office and informed their hours were to be cut.
There was no further explanation as to why, and any inquiry into the matter went ignored and unanswered.

Suddenly guess what !
Like magic appears ,, if I remember correctly three of the then guv's new toys !
And they all went straight to the highly desired day shift without having to go the route all other newbies were required to.
And they all had full schedule work weeks, imagine that.

One of the girls was furious and went to management , they decided they no longer needed her services and in popped another one of the big easy's finest to take her place.

My friend no longer taking in the earnings she used to tried to get another job, however as soon as she did the meadows started messing with her smaller schedule in an obvious attempt to "create an issue".

Eventually all the girls that were affected had enough and left , my friend ended up moving to colorado in the denver area.

I am sure they all would gladly inform you about what a kind and caring person vilsack is.
