Anyone know what it is? I'm moving to Davenport Summer 2010. My daughter will be 4 October 3rd. Will she be able to attend for fall season?

Davenport Community Schools

This should help you. I also found this within that website:

At what age is a student eligible for open enrollment? http://www.iowa.gov/educate/support/themes/client_default/space.gif (broken link)
Regular education students are eligible for grades K – 12, as well as for pre-Kindergarten programs, if the student is 5 years of age on or before September 15. In re Colby Miller, 20 D.o.E. App. Dec. 001. Students who require special education programs or services are eligible from birth to age 21. Iowa Code section 256B.2; 281 IAC rule 17.11.

Iowa law states that a child must be 5 years old on or before September 15 to enroll in kindergarten that school year; there are no exceptions allowed. So if you daughter will be 4 in October 2009 then she would not be eligible for kindergarten in Iowa until the 2011-2012 school year.

Really? Age 5 for Kindergarten? That's alittle old isn't it? I'm gonna have to check out Michigan's and see what their requirements are. I think it's 4. Thanks for the info.

It's 5 for Kinder, as it is in most states, 4 for Pre-K

I believe they have to be 5 before September 15. My daughter's b'day isn't until October 3rd.

I would try contacting your school district. They might be able to make special exceptions on a case-by-case basis, but I don't know that for a fact.
