I am planning to move to fairfield here in a few months, could anyone tell me how the schools are as well as the ethnic diversity. One of my children is half hispanic and I have another child that has aspergers syndrom.

Fairfield school are okay I guess. Most schools in Iowa are. I'm not sure on the diversity. I know the Maharishi are there but I'm not sure if their kids go to public schools or not. They should have a good special ed department there. If you need any help the AEA should be able to help you get set up with an IEP

Default Maharishi school

I would move to Fairfield in a heartbeat to get my son into the Maharishi school. Before you dismiss it as " weird', learn about it! Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment
It was co-founded by David Lynch and sounds absolutely amazing. I also think the community surrounding this school and the Maharishi School of Management would be an incredible place to live.

I know all about it and they are still weird.

Hope you like hippies

I married a hispanic guy, and I have never had a problem anywhere in Iowa with having a Spanish last name or having kids who are half-hispanic.
That said, there's often not alot of diversity in Iowa, though that's quickly changing. I haven't experienced the school system in Fairfield, but I will say those Maharishi folks really do take education seriously, and since there are quite a few of them there, I wouldn't be surprised if the education was quite good.

The public high school is a good school and the private school affiliated with the meditation movement is also a very good school. The Maharishi school might actually be better for a child with asbergers as it is more of a lighter load and more hands on school. it also has a better student to teacher ratio so things would be easier. The public high however has more opportunities and more options in terms of schools. Both are good. As for diversity this town is so racially diverse it makes no difference to anyone. Fairfield as a town, all things considered, is a very supportive place to be.

the replies all seem to be about right I was born and raised there and the diversity is many because of miu but the town people are used to everyone. There are two other towns too ottunwa to the west it has a large hispanic pop and the other town east is mt pleasant more jobs there i think.
good luck to you ,marky
