We are moving to Ft. Madison from SC and I was interested in the quality of the local schools. I am an art teacher seeking a position and my son will be in first grade next year. We are moving over the summer and need some info on the edu! Thank you to anyone who can help.

If you're moving to Iowa, you're NOT saying goodbye to humidity.

??

I'm pretty sure the upper Midwest is not a center of high humidity in the united states. I HATE humidity, and normally I can count on my fingers how many days a year are uncomfortably humid. Southern style humidity in this region is kinda like cold weather and snow in the south. It makes the news and people talk about it, but it's not an everyday kinda thing.

I've lived in Iowa for almost 30 years (Dubuque, to be specific), and it is true that humidity isn't as bad as the south. But it's what bugs me the most about living here. Be careful about getting your hopes up too high.

Humidity is not bad here at all. It's the long cold brutal unrelenting winters. Moving from SC, you are in for a rude awakening very shortly

The humidity isn't bad compared to SC's but once you're used to the lower level of humidity, it's gonna annoy the heck outta you! It's the Mormon flies that bother he heck outta me in Ft Madison. NASTY!

As far as FT Madison schools, blech. But this is just my opinion. Others who live there now might think or know differently.

Default humidity

IT still gets pretty humid in the midwest in summer, if you want to really get away from humidity the west coast or southwest (very hot) are probably the best bets. It never has been humid out there in those regions for me anyways...

Evapotranspiration from corn elevates the dewpoints to extreme levels at certain times during the summer in the Midwest. Heat indices can be as much as 15-20F than the apparent air temperature. No, you will not avoid the humidity, but the average temperatures in Iowa are more tolerable in the summer compared to the Lower Midwest.
