Ames would be your best bet. Being a college town, there is a good amount to do here. People are very friendly overall. Crime is low, but there are occasional problems- nothing to feel unsafe about though. There are some nice outdoor activities to do here as well. Ames has some nice city parks, there is Ledges State park in Boone, and others. Usually you can always find something to do here, but it might take some searching at times. Ames is close to DSM as well, which is a nice city that offers a lot for its size.

Cool Thinking of moving to Iowa

Hi all-hope you can help.
I'm a 44 year old single woman born and raised from the Southside of Chicago.I can no longer stand the drug dealers, gang bangers or crooked tax sucking politicians of the city. This whole city is going to hell.
I'm a country girl at heart, finding happiness in nature and animals. I don't utilize the city for what it has to offer, other than a great beef sandwich or kick-butt authentic Mexican food.
I would like to find a rural residential area to live but not too far of a commute to work or shopping etc. I'm a nurse and I would imagine that I would need to work in a city hospital in order to make the money I'm making now.
If anyone could help me re.places to live, areas or hospitals to work it would be greatly appreciated before I lose my mind! (and where a good Mexican restaurant can be found too!)

In Des Moines I prefer Fiesta Cancun on SE 14th. Lots of people like El Rodeo too. The tacos at local chain Tasty Tacos are a big hit and definitely worth trying.

...and for the beef sandwich, assuming you mean Italian beef, you can get those at Chicago Dog & Deli on the corner of Euclid and 6th. Chicago dogs as well.

Ames is a great place to raise little ones. Anywhere in Ames with an established realtor should be fine. Look at the places around because they can tell you a lot about neighborhoods. Look for different locations close to businesses that you would use such as daycares, hospital, and parks.

I have to agree with the suggestions about Ames, that's where your diversity is going to be.
