No problem for the heads up Bill. I realize it was nothing serious, just making a comment.

Yes, Iknow and understand. I realize I was sounding like a grumpy old man, i think?! No....I really was just making light of my situation. I wouldn't mind if my identity was stolen just because my credit couldn't buy you a rusty Huffy children's bicycle without a seat. Yea, I really was just making fun of myself...

I'm told there are residents of Iowa who have lived here their whole lives and never seen a tornado in person (just on the news).

I haven't seen a tornado here yet, either.

At age 12 my family moved from NE Kansas to Harlan, about 90 miles west of Des Moines. In Kansas we'd see several tornados every summer, but I lived 8-9 years in Iowa and never did see one. However, my sister's farm, nearby, was hit by at least 5 tornados.

In the 15 years I've lived in Iowa, I've only seen a tornado once (it was only partially-formed and miles away), and may have heard an actual tornado siren go off one or two times.

Tornadic activity can and does happen in Iowa, but it's not nearly at the same frequency or intensity in places like KS or OK.

Even where comparatively common, tornadoes are rare events. And they have a very small footprint. So the data from one small county is not going to be statistically useful. Sampling a larger area - say, the southwestern quarter of Iowa, where Audubon County is located - would give you a more accurate picture.

But again, your odds of being injured/killed by a tornado, or even of suffering any property damage, are long. This is true even in the heart of Tornado Alley. So I wouldn't worry much about tornadoes beyond appropriate precautions (ie, have a shelter of some sort and when the weather suggests tornadoes - you'll learn to recognize it, soon enough - stayed tuned to the radio).
