Joefan- Have you consider the lack of fitness oppurtunities in Dubuque to be the obese problem. I for one would love a center that offered more pilates and spinning classes. I know of towns half the size of Dubuque with many more options for fitness.

The Y has a lot of spin classes in Dubuque, along with weight lifting, kickboxing, etc. There are classes available for those who want them.

Yes the Y does have classes. I would just prefer going somewhere without all the hustle of children's classes or random people just hanging around. An adult workout facility like Bally's or even a private studio concept with small classes would be ideal for me.

There is one place that provides pilates classes in Dubuque. It is Body and Soul Wellness Center. No one has mentioned it yet. Here is the address for the web page.

spinqueen,

The good news is that spin classes are alive and well in Dubuque. While it's true that we do not have dedicated spin or pilates gyms, we do have some top notch facilities. The Y, the Gym, and Westside all offer spin classes that are ussually packed. In regards to pilates, unfortunately we do not have a pilates only gym that has the speciality equipment. Many of the workout facilities do offer pilates and yoga classes, but they are the traditional stretching and strength classes. Body and Soul Wellness has a variety of classes that incorporate both. Here is a list of the gyms for you.

Recreation and Fitness Centers:

•Anytime Fitness: 660 Iowa St., 563.556-0056
•Alpine Tennis and Fitness: 1090 Cedar Cross Road, 563.556-1234
•The Gym: 1097 Elm St., 563.582-1540
•Jazzercise: 2905 Kerper Blvd., 563.582-1540
•Dubuque Community Y: 35 N. Booth St., 563.556-3371
•Peosta Community Center: 7896 Burds Road, 556-8751
•SNAP Fitness: Radford Road, 563.690.2447
•Westside Fitness, Salon & Spa: 4170 Pennsylvania Ave, 563.556-1008‎
•Body and Soul Wellness: 563.556.9642

This is not so. cal, not even close. Moved here from SF last year for my new job, the city has growing pains with new employers coming to town, however those are coming from different places around the country and might have better attitude about life style and health. i myself workout daily, and yes, most girls here are chunky probably because they drink beer and eat cheese. Just walk in to Wal-mart and target and look around you.
Anyway, I am 36 Y/O male, very much into workout, I work in the west side gym which IMHO, is the best one. Not too busy but busy enough...
Let me know if you want to hookup when you get to Dubuque, I can show you around ;-).

We're not all morbidly obese morons who over-consume for crying out loud! I have been to other cities and seen much, much worse!
