You posted them just to make a point...that not everyone in Minneapolis is white collar. If anyone is stereotyping, it's you. It's just ignorant.

Chicago has more fat people per capita than probably any true major city in the world. Impossible to be cosmopolitan. Minneapolis is much more fitness-oriented, and it shows in the overall population. Minneapolis politics are always compared to Seattle, Portland, SF. It even overtook SF this year as the "most gay friendly city" by the advocate. Should tell you right there...Minneapolis makes Chicago look right-wing. Outside of Boystown, you rarely see gays out in the open in Chicago the way you would in coastal cities, or Minneapolis. Sorry, there is no data that says that. You're one of those people that requires an almanac be available at all times...it's a typical City-Data ploy to appear smart, and nothing else. Reading this forum enough, you see how Chicago is always trying to play up how liberal is, and Minneapolis is not.

It's always at the top of fattest city lists, won the coveted title in 2006, and is constantly in the top 5. Look it up if you want. It's there. Minneapolis always is among the fittest cities in America.

Chicago can keep their baked casserole pizza and variety of foods - it's going to good use. Minneapolis is far more liberal and fitness oriented...more like a coastal city on the two most important fronts Chicago will never equalize, even being so much bigger.

So that is your angle? What city is gayer? Well Minneapolis wins. No doubt about it.

Keep basking in your gay "cosmo" glory. Nobody really cares.

Not everyone in Minneapolis is a white collar worker. That is not a stereotype, it is a fact. Second, you need to check into what "cosmopolitan" means, because it has nothing to do with a city being fat or skinny in terms of its citizens. Minneapolis may be an exercise friendly city, but you're going to run into fat people, short people, tall people, etc. just like you would anywhere else. It's a personal decision and factor that still has nothing to do with being cosmopolitan. Moving on, I'm not unfit - so I could care less about whether or not people around me are or are not leading healthy lifestyles as well.

As far as GBLT issues, Minneapolis still loses. Minneapolis has an estimated 34,295 LGBT people whereas Chicago has 114,449. so it's true that Minneapolis has a "higher percentage" of gay people, but that really has nothing to do with the entire discussion as we're not debating per-capita percentages and numbers so much as we are raw facts. Chicago has Boystown and Lakeview as well as the Chicago Pride which is the anchoring pride event for anyone LGBT in the midwest over Minneapolis by far despite being gay friendly. Minneapolis has Loring Park, there is no contest there. Furthermore, Minnesota and Illinois are two states where a majority of the states population live in the only urban area in the state yet only one of them (albeit recently) has made any attempt at legalizing or working towards gay marriage or civil unions and that is Illinois, effective this June. Minneapolis may have a large gay population, but very little of its social policy reflects that currently I'd say in terms of overall LGBT rights and recognition, Chicago and Illinois win this round despite Minneapolis and it's high percentage of gays.

Finally, I may appear to be some "almanac" user with my statistics and numbers, but what other source are we expected to use? Your personal onions are far less credible, even with the many flaws in statistics to the point that this discussion is becoming less of a discussion and more of a pointless, stupid discussion. You've jumped from issue to issue regarding Minneapolis and so far, every discussion or point you've brought up has been tanked.

Deep dish pizza and fat people are the last two things I'd consider in terms of which city trumps another, as neither of them are remotely important factors.

I think it's time for everybody to stop feeding the troll.

Shouldn't this thread be in City Vs City, anyway?

lol, typical Chicago mentality. Keep all the gays in Boystown.

I'm open-minded and support all types of people/lifestyles. The fact is, most very liberal cities are tolerant to all types of people. Chicago only is in certain neighborhoods.

Two gays in Chicago suburbs (besides Evanston - maybe) probably carries as much shock value as it would in rural Kansas.

Minneapolis is more tolerant overall of alternative lifestyles - similar to West Coast cities. Which makes sense, as it's a significantly more liberal city. You probably assume anyone who supports that, must be of an alternative lifestyle themselves. Ignorant mentality, but to be expected from the Rust Belt.

This statement should make clear that you don't know what you're talking about.

Some people are very ignorant here. Could say the sky isn't blue, and you'd think I actually believe that too.

It's amazing how conservative Chicago suburbs all - that's all I was saying...I'll be more direct next time.

And there is some truth to that...two gays in Wheaton (western Chicago suburb) would be as controversial as anywhere in rural America. Midwestern stereotypes are found more heavily in Chicago. Sorry if that upsets some of you.

Okay out of Chicago, Minneapolis, indianapolis and Cedar Rapids Chicago easily takes this thread. Not only are recent posters comparing a world class city ( Chicago) to Minneapolis, but also a metro population difference of 7 million people ( yes that is a lot of people, chicago metro equals nearly 3 Minneapolis metros).
Coastal cities? Chicago is on Lake Michigan, and therefore will share a greater common cultural to coastal cities than Minneapolis by far.
Minneapolis is also known as Murderapolis, and its crime rate has recently been higher than chicago within the past years ( including 2010).
In a nut shell Minneapolis and Indianapolis are more comparable, or another midwest city Detroit.
Again, in a nut shell Chicago would relate more to the larger US coastal cities while Minneapolis relates more to the larger midwest cities. Both of the cities could improve. Both are share common midwest traits. Though there is no large midwest city that share similar geographic etc... as Chicago, where as Minneapolis is geographicly etc... similar the majority of the midwest.
