Hello, anyone used pods in Cedar Rapids for storage? I am thinking about using one and wanted to know if anyone had comments on them. Tx

I have used the PODS system twice. I found them significantly cheaper than using a mover. From my experience, the key to using POD lies in packing the unit correctly. I hired professional movers to move my things out of my home into the POD to ensure that everything was efficiently and safely packed. I also used many bungee cords/ropes to secure heavy items against the walls, as well as furniture blankets to protect.

Even with the expense of the movers (about 2-3 hours), rope, and furniture blankets, the expense was still waaay less than a traditional mover.

If you are moving between different areas, e.g. Iowa City and Des Moines, you will need to arrange delivery in advance since they will need to find a carrier to bring your POD to you. You also need to ensure that POD has service in the area you are moving to.

When I moved from Iowa City to Des Moines, my POD was stored in Cedar Rapids. I never had a problem with them.

My wife and I are moving from Portland to Boone next month, and we found ABF. Depending on the amount of stuff you have to move, you can chose between using containers similar to PODS, or renting space in a semi trailer. To give you an example of the cost difference...we have a 3 bdrm house (though 2 bedrooms are unused)...and it's $780 for the trailer. That includes the drivers, gas, etc....they guarantee to have it in Ankeny in 6 days. Conversely, to rent a U-Haul would cost us double.

Best of luck with your move!
