There are some very nice homes out by Glass Road where you looked and as stated previously, the apartments on Glass/380 are notoriously bad news.

Did you happen to look around in the Southwest side near Kirkwood Community College? Some very nice newer homes in that area and it is in close to town.

No, we didn't drive around that area. It's on our list to do next time though.

Any suggestions for apartments? We would like to stay under $700 but if utilities are included we could go higher. This would be mainly for DH who will be there part time and here part time. At least a 1 bedroom, quiet complex, garage available or included. We don't want a place where the police are there daily but it doesn't have to be top of the line either. Easy access to 380 would be a bonus but just something where you are not stuck taking Collins Road at rush hour would be nice. We will be back down in a few weeks to find a place and wanted to do some online research to narrow down choices. Apartment, condo, townhome, single family home are all fine.

Pointe At Cedar Rapids Apartments for Rent | Cedar Rapids IA Apartments on Apartmentfinder.com

The apartments shown in the link above are close to I-380. They are in NE CR.

At one time they were low income apartments, but they booted people out and did a major renovation. I have heard they are decent apartments now.

I lived across 42nd St from these apartments 20 years ago and never had any trouble.

There is a nice park near by with swimming pools, tennis courts and a nice walking path.

I haven't looked at apartments for twenty years, so all I can tell you is these may POSSIBLY be good apartments to check out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me the SW side of town is getting worse to live in, especially the apartment areas.

Default Glass Road

I live right off of Glass Road for the past 11 years, but I am closer to Edgewood Road rather than 380. We have never had any problems around here from the apartments mentioned, although I am aware there are problems in that particular complex.

Default Cedar Trail Village apartments

The Pointe apartments were once low income, and i think they may still be. They did do a major renovation of the apartments, but I am not sure if they are still low income. I would be a little hesitant to recommend them. I know there use to be a lot of problems there.

Thirteen years ago, I live in the Cedar Trail Village apartments (125 Boyson Rd, Hiawatha) for 2 years. At that time they were brand new, and a 2 bedroom 1 bath went for $650. The area was pretty nice then. Down the street are some low income apartments but we never experienced any problems. The elementary school is across the street. My kids went there and there was a good mix of income levels.

I agree they used to be a trouble spot.

The apartments were gutted and completely renovated, which meant the occupants had to move. I was told by a born and raised Cedar Rapidian that the place is nice now.

I haven't verified that for myself.

The Pointe is still kind of bad news. Not as bad as when they were Park Towne apartments but not good. Several news stories this summer of robbery, theft and assault at the complex.

I can't really recommend any apartments as I've not looked in several years.

Thanks for setting the record straight. You were right iagal.

golfgal, don't waste time at the Pointe.

I work with a young guy who not so long ago lived at the Windsor on the River apts. He said they were ok.

Would flooding be a concern here? These look ok. They were on my pre-scouting list so that's good. We will avoid the Pointe.

Others that online looked ok were:

Grand Ridge on Ashton Place
Gateway Apartments on 6th Street
Grand Reserve on Rockwell
Granite Valley on C Ave.

Any comments about these places?
