It wasn't up to Muhammad to implement music into worship. One worships God from himself/herself by reaching for God spiritually, with all our heart, mind and soul. Praising God itself is music in our prayers. There is no need for whistling and clapping in our prayers like they used to do in front of idols in the past making it into a show.

Does it describe what kind of joyful sound? Sound with tongue and mouth or with drum, guitar or tap dancing?

Can't you connect to God spiritually without music?

And you are not in the presence of God if there is no music?

How would you pray/worship on top of a mountain? Take a musical instrument with you?

We can do that without music.

Muslims are missing nothing. Their God is closer to them their jugular vein. As humans exist with help of spirit from God, it is quite easy for them to connect to God spiritually. Spirit of God is in His words too. When you recite those words with all your heart, mind, tongue, mouth and soul, you are connected to God spiritually. Here is a bit of taste for you:

If you want to learn how to praise God, this may help you:

All the above from Islamic prayer some time or the other.

It's because what is recited in the mosque during our formal prayers is itself wonderful music for us to connect to God spiritually. We don't need to whistle, clap or dance to draw attention of God towards us.

That is about our formal worship and prayer recitation such as in a mosque but we can mix music with anything like that outside the formal worship. We can call it zikr or praise but it is not formal worship but just remembering God that way. Here is a bit from my fellow British guy Sami Yusuf:

Hi there, really nice question.

I think Muslims tend to shy away from musical instruments, but there are arguments for and against that. But at the very least, Muslims tend to dislike wind instruments and like percussion. (Hey, isn't the piano percussive?)

I really like the Sufi music of South Asia. Here are my favourites right now (they mix it up with a peculiar breathing technique):

^^^^ this is my favourite. Reminds me of Qur'an 42:5 "Almost might the heavens above be rent asunder while the angels hymn the praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on the earth. Lo! Allah, He is the Forgiver, the Merciful."

A different style - some Sufi brotherhoods were just communities of workers that mixed prayer with their daily work - Ora et Labora - and so the imbued the tools of their trade with spiritual allegory:

I hope you liked those videos, don't worry, l won't expect you to listen to it all but please try at least one. Oh and don't get sidetracked by haters and derailers Peace.
