It is not a command to kill all non-Muslims as some seem to believe.
And BTW, it was 60 years after Muhammed when Malick, conquered Mecca.

Discourses and Periods of Revelation

This Surah comprises three discourses:-

The first discourse (vv. 1-37), was revealed in Zil-Qa'adah A. H. 9 or thereabout. As the importance of the subject of the discourse required its declaration on the occasion of Haj the Holy Prophet despatched Hadrat Ali to follow Hadrat Abu Bakr, who had already left for Makkah as leader of the Pilgrims to the Ka'abah. He instructed Hadrat Ali to deliver the discourse before the representatives of the different clans of Arabia so as to inform them of the new policy towards the mushriks.

The big problem here is all of these claims that were written down hundreds of years after the events, and they conflict with actual writings during the period of event and documentation.

One of the many reasons there are so few books about Muhammad(saws) can probably be attributed to the massive burnings of Arabic books by the Crusaders. HERE

Much of Arabic history remained only in the memories of the people. The remarkable thing is the oral history remained quite consistent

Absolutly false.

The crusaders were nowhere near Bagdad Mecca or medina. the heart of Islam.

And most of the hundreds of thousand writings show up in the 9th and 10th century, and they have all of them.

Interesting side note. I do not begrudge Frank Gardner for not forgiving the man who shot him. But, as the injured party under Saudi law, he has it within his power to save his assailant from hanging. Under Saudi law as the injured he can forgive his assailant or request a lighter sentence.
Yes, neither do I, it would be churlish and ungenerous to blame him (though I happen to be strongly against capital punishment). Option or not, I hardly consider Saudi to be a bastion of enlightenment.

To try to say the crusaders walked through the libraries and said, we are only burning books from the 7th century is ludacris.

The cold hard reality is that there is nothing from the 7th century, from which there should be the most.

We are speaking of generations where nothing was written down.
Don't you think someone in the invading forces would have noticed that these were peacefull people who spent all of their day in classes memorizing millions of verses, refusing to write anything down.

No, there is nothing mentioned on this line whatsoever, in fact just the opposite, they spent their days in warfare, raiding and pillaging .

They burned the major libraries which were in Tripoli, Baghdad and Egypt. As the books were all hand written most were the only copies in existence.
