Since Scripture promises that the Earth abides forever - Ecclesiastes 1:4 B - then Hawkings should reconsider.
We're all in it for now, but at the soon coming ' time of separation ' to take place on Earth as per Matthew 25:31-33,37 only the upright will remain - Proverbs 2:21-22, thus only the humble meek will inherit the Earth as Jesus promised.

That is not this land or the current earth but a new land/earth in which will be gardens and flowing waters.

Yes, the garden; not deserts.

[57.21] Hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and to a garden the extensiveness of which is as the extensiveness of the heaven and the earth; it is prepared for those who believe in God and His messengers; that is the grace of God: He gives it to whom He pleases, and God is the Lord of mighty grace.

Earth today is not as extensive as the heaven and earth.

[14.48] On the day when the earth shall be changed into a different earth, and the heavens (as well), and they shall come forth before God, the One, the Supreme.
