Over the years Sunni-Shī‘ah relations have been marked by both cooperation and conflict, with conflict predominating.
Usually we're on the same page, but you're a little quick to argue on his point. There is an underlying truth to his point. Since the U.S. involvement in the Persian Gulf, the U.S. has pinned the Sunni's against the Shi'a and it is a cause for tensions that exist.

But you're also correct in saying that the it didn't originate with the U.S. either. I don't think that's what he meant to say though - I'm not sure.

I'm by no means a Christian and you're point is spot on: Christians should be just as embarrassed as any other.

But my overall point still remains: it doesn't matter what anyone's book says because there is implication and feeling that people can begin to judge for themselves what God's will is and that's a very dangerous thing. All told, religion has more blood on its hands than anything else in human history. To me, it's dangerous and you don't need a book to tell you what to do - it's for the weak and I don't support any of it.

Why are Christians living in fear in countries where Islam dominates while Mosques and Muslim go virtully unmolested in the west, where Christianity took root?

Why are those who convert to Christianity killed or threaten with death in Islamic countries?

Over here....many convert to Islam with no problem of death.

Just asking.

Ah, the big conspiracy theory. We were after the oil.

You know what? We had the oil BEFORE the invasion. Saddam offered us everything not to displace him.

Face it - you are a Sunni, you like the fact that the Sunnis held power over the Shiit majority, and you didn't care that Saddam was a ruthless thug that kept them down.

Now your mad because the Sunnis are losing control of the region. Get over it.

Yeah, Saddam killed about 100,000 shiits after the first gulf war, and killed Kurds like it was going out of style.

But those weren't sunni muslims, so they don't count to white angel.

Sunnis and Shia have never gotten along. Saddams iron rule allowed the minority Sunni to dominate the Shia for a long time, though.

But thats one of the reasons some many other countries in the region are fighting their proxy war in Iraq. The Sunnis don't want to see the Shia get control of iraq's oil fields. Their afraid of the Shia in Iran getting to much power in the region.

Yeah, you have the right to defend yourselves, but people read into religious texts that murder is ok, when people don't believe.

This is what happens with Islam, this is what happens with all religions.

The Koran says numerous times its ok and your duty to kill non-believers. That makes the book wrong, religion shouldn't be about killing anything.

Not to mention the human rights violations due to the Islamic faith.

Indonesia just passed a law, based on their Muslim faith that allows.

A. THE STONING OF WOMEN WHO COMMIT ADULTRY TO DEATH!

and

B. THE JAILING OF HOMOSEXUALS!

Some peaceful forgiving religion that is.

This is comforting to know. Now, if only the adherents of Islam were following its dictates, everything would be peaches & cream.
