The Standard Life Building officially opened on October 1, and the building is already at 65% occupancy. All of the apartments are complete, and now the focus has turned to the ground floor where a New York style grocery and deli called
Bodega will be located.
The 81-year-old former office complex, now marketed as Standard Life Downtown Flats, features 76 upscale apartments and retail/commercial space. Developers Watkins Partners, New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister and HRI Properties of New Orleans have restored the building which has been one of the dominant fixtures on the Jackson skyline since 1929.

Roughly $33 million was spent on upgrading the 81-year-old building, including expanding and modernizing things like elevator shafts and stairwells and preserving certain historic aspects of the structure.
Even during a global recession, downtown revitalization and redevelopment in Jackson have continued to move forward with a growing momentum. According to Downtown Jackson Partners, over $2.4 billion in development projects are planned or under way.
