I am relocating to the Jackson, MS area around late May or darly June. I am looking for a 2, preferably 3 bdrm. place to rent that is somewhere between $500 - $700 per month. I have a daughter that will be going into the 5th grade, so a good school district is a definite must. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!!!!

Based on your description I would recommend Flowood and the adjacent Reservoir area in Rankin County out Lakeland Drive (aka Hwy 25). This area is mostly new, growing, very safe, and very affordable, with nice schools.

I agree with Brickpatio. However, I have to warn you, your budget is probably going to get stretched. $500- $700 is going to be hard to find. As you get closer to moving, PM me, I know some investors who own rentals and may be able to help you find somehting.

Sorry to hijack thread, but while we're on the topic of rentals, how much does a 2 bedroom in Jackson proper usually rent for? In one of the "younger" areas, preferably.

Remember, every school system in MS comes with a qualifier. Even the good school systems are "good relative to MS." Take a MS curriculum to CT, and it would be a laughing stock.

A 2 bedroom nicer apartment complex in Ridgeland or Flowood going towards the Reservoir is going be around $875. In some of the cooler new, higher-end places (Township at Colony Park, new mid-rise apartment building in Fondren or at King Edward or Standard Life buildings in downtown) you're probably looking at up to $1,100. In Belhaven, which is a residential neighborhood but with lots of apartments, you probably have to find these either by driving around or perhaps on Craigslist etc. My guess is these run the gambit from very affordable ($800 or lower to newly renovated and high end).

Your common style apartment complexes will run $500-900 in Jackson for a 2BR, depending on location and how nice the units are - 2 BR houses in Fondren/Belhaven will be higher, more like $750-1200. It's been a while since I lived in an apartment, so you will want to do some calling around to get a more accurate estimate.

yes, I agree, from the sounds of things you should stay on the outskirts of jackson, although rents a bit higher. I have plenty of rentals both in CLINTON and Jackson. If you can't afford the outskirts of jackson (bellhaven, clinton, ridgeland) you must be very specific where you stay in Jackson, and be very wary of slum lords. PM me for some great property managers with quality affordable homes.
