My husband and I just moved to Madison MS from New York. We are trying to find local day trips so that we can explore the state. The issue is we have a little dog and have no one to leave him with. So any dog friendly places would be a plus. thanks.

I would recommend a trip to the Mississippi coast. Dogs aren't allowed on the more populated beaches in Biloxi or Gulfport, however, I understand they are welcome on the beaches in western Hancock County. Check up on that first, it may have changed.

Mary Mahoney's restaurant in Biloxi has an outdoor dining area where dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed.

You could go on the Biloxi Shrimping Trip, which allows dogs on a short lease if they aren't too busy. It is a 70 minute tour that gives you an idea of what it's like to be a shrimper.

Wolf River Canoe and Kayak, located in Long Beach, allows dogs on their rental craft for an additional charge of $5.

Highway 90 is a really nice drive along the coast. Not sure if your dog is the hang his/her head out the window kind or not, but if he is I bet he (or she) would enjoy the sights.

Outdoors you can explore state parks and rivers and islands off the coast. Try Black Creek or the Okatoma for clear water and gentle rapids. Clark Creek wilderness area has steep trails and waterfalls. The ferry to Ship Island runs through October or you can take charter boats to Horn Island. Vicksburg national military park is beautiful and a nice little day trip.
