In order for west Jackson to be revitalized, then the people running around killing each other would have to be stopped. The mentality that human life has so little value will not change over night. While revitalization is possible, I think it would take several generations of people who live in that community saying enough is enough before the change could happen.

I'm sure you mean well, but what does this actually mean? Don't you think most of the people in West Jackson are already frustrated at the situation they find themselves in. I'm not sure saying "enough is enough" accomplishes anything. I think more concrete solutions are needed, but none are easy.

No, I do not think that a majority of the people there are fed up. I think that most have just accepted the drug and gun culture as the way things are. It will take parents raising their children to know that this behavior is wrong. Since you have teens and early 20's already out there killing people then they certainly won't teach their children right. That is what I mean by the generational aspect of my post.

Exactly. I see no outrage. I do however see kids killing each other, kids skipping school, fathers abandoning their kids and crime.

If a white person kills a black person (which happens very, very rarely) there is instant outrage in the black community, but blacks kill blacks on a regular basis and there is very little outrage. I have never understood this.

False.

There is not outrage when a white kills a black. There is outrage when a white kills a black, is caught, is obviously guilty, and yet gets away with it.

I understand your sentiment (I may not agree it with), but white on black violet crime is so rare, it shouldn't be a major issue. black on black violet crime is out of control and is a major issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Reduce black on black crime and you would dramatically improve the lives of poor blacks in the short term.

This the ER theory, when one comes in the ER, you stop the bleeding (most life threatening issue) first. Black on black crime is the bleeding.

the money is in the problem, not the solution. Social activists, civic leaders, etc., make money off problems, not solutions.

And who was the person you are referring to?
