Helen Harrion was a fine person with a lovely family. She lived within sight of Northwest Jackson's Lake Hico. Early in the morning, she was awakened by sounds of someone breaking into her home. She called 911, and police came, but did not investigate. The man unscrewing her burglar bars made it into her house after the police left, and brutally murdered her.

Update: Neighbor Alonzo Stewart charged with capital murder in Harrion homicide

People really do try to stay in Jackson. But this sort of tragedy is why so many moving vans are headed out of Jackson every single day.

The 911 operator also did not stay on the phone with her until police arrived. The police only knocked on her door, and then they left when no one answered. They didn't even bother to walk around to the back of the house to investigate. If they had they would have discovered her body. I can't help but wonder if this incident is what prompted the effective immediately retirement of the police chief.

Well the police chief said something to the effect that the officers were wrong to not investigate. So the police union probably threatened him or the mayor wanted him gone. Telling the truth gets you fired in these kind of crimes.

Mayor Yarber wanted him gone from the first day he took office, and used this as an excuse to get rid of him by asking him to resign. Yarber wants no one with allegiances to Lumumba around.
