BTW, best pizza place in Jackson is either the Pizza Shack or Lost Pizza Co. I haven't decided which one I like better.
This not my first time on the forum, I had to register again because of new email address. This forum was invaluable when researching the area before I moved to area almost 1 year ago from Pennsylvania.

Anyway, I am glad to stumble across this thread on good places to eat in the Jackson area. I agree with the OP that I have been disappointed with many restaurants in the area, and still looking for that 1 great place to go. I have been very happy with the area since moving and find the people here to be very friendly. My only grips about Mississippi are 1. nobody uses turn signals around here. That really pisses me off. My second grip is this area doesn't know what pizza is, period.

I can't believe that there is not one mom and pop pizza shop around here where you can't walk in and grab a slice of plain cheese pizza with thin crust. The kind you can fold in half with your hand, and be careful not to drip grease on your shirt. Come on, how much is that to ask for?
Hell, I was in the French Quarter last weekend, and grabbed a slice of pizza in an ordinary crappy daiquiri shop that was better than anything from the Jackson area.
I have tried Sal & Mookies that came highly recommended. Not only was it the most expensive pizza, it was also the worse pizza I have ever ate.
SoulShine pizza wasn't bad, but what's with all the toppings? Lost Pizza wasn't too bad. I order the Mexican pizza that was unusual but tasty. Pizza Shack, ok but reminded me of Pizza Hut pan pizza.
I haven't tried Mello Mushroom, and don't plan to if their prices are that insane.

My favorite pizza in the area is believe it or not, Hungry Howie's on Old Canton Rd. in Ridgeland.

The search continues.

On a positive note, I really enjoy the variety of restaurants we have to choose from in the area.

A sign outside the building said applications will be accepted starting on January 2. Given the amount of time needed to add staffing and training, it could possibly be February before Fuddruckers/Luby's open.

The Fuddruckers/Luby's will open on February 19, which is less than three weeks away. Can't wait to try it!

Maybe. Maybe not. If it's not to my satisfaction, I give one more chance. If it isn't any better the second time, then I'm gone.

Luby's is alright. I like it a lot better than Piccadilly. You just have to realize what it is. An attempt at home cooking in a cafeteria setting. It is far from amazing but sometimes, if you just want a piece of chicken and some veggies with a big roll, it will work.
