Right now, Kroger, McDade's, Save A Lot and Walmart are the major players in the metro grocery scene. We do have a few smaller ones like Vowell's and Mac's. We all remember Jitney Jungle, Sack N Save and Winn-Dixie. Albertson's and, later, Brookshire's came and left. I remember a Sunflower on Clinton Blvd. and an A&P on Capitol. I believe it's where the Family Dollar across from the zoo is now.

Yes! There's one in South Jackson on West McDowell Road, & there is one in North Jackson at Meadowbrook & North State, where Meadowbrook Cinema 8 used to be, and longer than that, where the 51 Drive-In was!

Sadly no. They folded in 2000, & nowadays most of the old Jitney's are McDade's Market now.

Isn't there also a Piggly Wiggly in Brandon? I know there's one in Canton.

Well now I feel like an idiot! I live in Brandon, and my husband just told me that there is still a Piggly Wiggly here. I am so embarrassed that I didn't remember that. Although, I must admit that I've lived here for 2 years and haven't set foot in there. I just always have coupons and the sales pamphlet for Kroger. I think that sometime this week I will go there to see what they have and compare prices.

I think I forgot about the one in Brandon because I'm used to shopping in them in country towns that don't have any other grocery stores. Although the ones that I shopped in in Raymond and Prentiss are now Ramey's.

I recall Winn Dixie acquiring Jitney Jungle in 2000, then closing stores in 2005.

They were like Winn-Dixie, they just pulled out of Mississippi! But honestly the only two locations Albertson's & Brookshire's had in the metro area were in Brandon & Ridgeland, and both of those are Kroger now.
