State senator Josh Harkins, who represents Madison and Rankin counties, will file a bill that would allow the governor to appoint a seven-member commission made up of two members each from Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties, as well as one at-large member. For the full story:

Good. It's a poorly run airport. Wait until we see the airport boards "expenses".

That is a pretty bizarre situation. I didn't realize that the City of Jackson actually owned the airport, being that it lies outside of the city limits and is over in Rankin County. That definitely would make for a strange business relationship with Flowood and Brandon. I would say that was a failure on the city of Jackson's part to ever let a new airport be built out in the suburbs rather than in the city limits. I recognize that a new airport must have been needed to replace Hawkins Field but surely there was available land within the city limits in 1963 for an airport.

Stokes has guaranteed the State will take over the airport.

According to the article, yes, but you wouldn't really ever know it based on the location, as it is surrounded by Flowood & Pearl.

I used to live near the airport right on the reservoir. This was 20 yrs ago and I didn't like it. Too noisy.

You think airplanes just drop straight down from the sky as they get over the airport?

No, but I would assume that they would have ascended to a decent height by the time they got to the Reservior to where they wouldn't be a nuisance.
