Agreement was made 7 years ago. Absolutely no progress has been made, in fact they are dumping more minimally treated sewage into the Pearl River than ever before.

And here's how this issue exacerbates itself in Jackson's neighborhoods as well.. not just dumping the sewage to go downstream to become someone else's problem.

Raw sewage seeping from street forces elderly Jackson resident from her home

I don't know if they are updating this any longer past 2018, but members of Pearl Riverkeeper have been logging all sewage overflows into a database to be mapped, pretty eye-opening how many of them there are:

Well that explains why Rankin County leaders felt the need to construct their own sewage treatment plant.

Of course, some people have alternative theories: Jackson Jambalaya: Jackson tried to "regionalize" wastewater treatment.

Key phrase in one of those articles:

Quote:
“The city could be fined from $500 to $2,000 a day for violations of the Clean Water Act, which could quickly run into the hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars,” per the Clarion Ledger. “The worst-case scenario would be the EPA going to court to put the city in receivership, a situation in which the federal agency takes over management of a city’s water and sewer department and makes all financial decisions, including the awarding of contracts and the setting of water and sewer rates.”
This is probably what needs to happen.
