That happened already. The Capitol complex was supposed to give Capitol police powers thought-out the downtown area. Last I saw it degenerated into finger pointing - Jackson saying the capital police aren't doing anything, the capital police saying Jackson police wasn't supposed to abandon that sector.

Also, state police were supposed to police the interstate in Jackson. That lasted about 1 month, haven't seen a statie in Jackson in months.

I realize that this is too much to ask, even with Jackson basically gaining in all areas. Got to keep that power!
Nice. Try to steal one positive asset from Jackson while the town is suffering. That's exactly the kind of behavior that makes Jackson hate the state government.

I'm not from Mississippi but this thread was on top and caught my eye. We deal with similar issues next door here in Louisiana including Baton Rouge which is 30 min from me. Unfortunately its the "hood culture" that's to blame and I'm not afraid to say this because I'm a person of color myself though not black.

Every time someone is killed, the people in the neighborhood and liberal in the media always blame the NRA or white people. They never blame the person who pulled the trigger, the person who ordered the victim's death when applicable, or the people that got the victim into the criminal lifestyle. that led to his death. People in these neigborhoods really need to support law enforcement and stand up to the culture of not snitching. If they think that "black lives matter" they need to act like it. Act like their own life matters by not engaging in crime or drugs for example.

Not steal. Pay for it. There was a JJ article on it a few years ago.

Stop trying to find ways to get mad.

That still doesn't make sense mathematically. How do one arrived at 1 in 10 for Aframs?

My math definitely could be wrong. My thinking was that if Jackson has 12,000 murders over the next 80 years (at the current pace of 150 per year), and given that Jackson has an African-American population of roughly 120,000 people, that would mean about one in ten African-Americans in Jackson will be murdered over that 80 years.

Assuming that 80 years is roughly the average person's lifetime, that would suggest that on the average, one in ten African-Americans in Jackson will be murdered during their lifetime. It really is shocking when you think about it. The good news is that the African-American population outside Jackson in Hinds, Rankin, and Madison Counties is also about 120,000, and almost none of them will be murdered, largely because those areas are well policed and have enough police officers to catch criminals before they get the opportunity to kill people.
