Not surprised.

The only person I have ever personally known who was murdered, was in Jackson. And having been there many times, it’s not a nice place. It even lacks a lot of just basic human kindness; nobody really says thanks or holds doors open. I don’t hate Jackson, it just holds sad memories for me and I think it lacks compassion, courtesy and thought. I wish the best for Jackson, and hope that one day it will set itself right.

The reporter of the article made 1 minor mistake. That's the county of L.A homicides not the city of L.A.

If my math is right, over a lifetime 1 of every 12 people in Jackson will be murdered in their lifetime.

If you multiply 150 murders a year times an average lifetime of 80 years, that equals 12,000 murders over the next 80 years. There are 150,000 people in Jackson, therefore roughly 1 in 12 will be murdered. Since most of the victims are African-American, that figure for African-American residents in Jackson is about 1 in 10. Think of that...one in ten African-Americans in Jackson will be murdered. Unthinkable.

This is a scandal. The state leaders need to take over and expand the policing budget in Jackson at least five-fold, so that they can raise salaries and recruit about 3 to 4 times as many officers as they have now.

What is the motive for these murders - a perverse “honor culture” that requires you to kill someone who allegedly disrespects you?

Did the pregnant woman 3 weeks ago disrespect anyone? Do we have any motive for that killing?

Even if Tate had the inclination, Lumumba would never ask for that. So we have a perfect storm - a mayor that doesn't want state help, and a governor unwilling to give help to a city that doesn't vote for him.

So why don't they meet in the middle, and have some sort of state intervention in downtown? They've already started with the state police. Railroad tracks to the west and south, Fortification to the north, interstate to the east.

And while they are at it, work out a deal to sell the airport to the the new airport authority. Jackson gets money, and we all get a better airport for the metro area.

I realize that this is too much to ask, even with Jackson basically gaining in all areas. Got to keep that power!

I don't even understand the mental gymnastics you put yourself through to arrived at that conclusion.

Easy. Just assume that for the next 80 years the total population of Jackson will be the 150,000 individuals that live there at this moment, with no addition to the population, or subtraction except by murder.
