I wondered what are the myths of Jackson, MS because of the bad reports that I have been reading and hearing about the state of Mississippi, such as poor health and low educational rate. Although Mississippi seems to be a nice state, I hope that things will be better and improved in Mississippi . Would it be possible for Jackson and the rest of the state of Mississippi to have more in the future, especially national and international stuff?

Just wondering Grasshopper. You live in Chicago but for the last 2 years you have asked the same questions over and over and over again about Jackson MS.
What is your fascination with Jackson about?

ok not to sound rude but how is that competition anymore important than competitions in other "sports." at the end of the day, is it really going to matter who can dance the best while on their toes?

It does to many of us who couldn't care less about "foosball."

It's not so much about who wins except probably to the dancers and their sponsors. It is, however, a very nice way to spend an evening.

Some people like monster trucks...

i see what your saying, but i just dont think "important" was the right word to describe the event. now "biggest" maybe, but "most important" no.

It is important as a cultural event. If you don't dig such then it wouldn't be important to you. What you stated about "people on their toes" suggests a dismissive view. Many people, however, find dance to be a beautiful art form and admire greatly the talented artists who perform. And it is an important event in Jackson. Geez!

The myth about Mississippi is that it's full of rednecks wearing overalls or white hoods, that it's restaurants only serve deep fried, poorly prepared food, and the only radio stations are country or Christian.
Wrong! I didn't see anybody with a white hood ( maybe it was laundry day), the overalls belonged to the man making the best BBQ in the United States. I had some memorably great meals in Mississippi, and it seemed like anywhere we went in MS. there was a national public radio affiliate.
Not saying that Mississippi is the great center of culture or anything like that, but if you're looking for "culture" you can find it in Mississippi, if you're looking for gourmet food or classical music or literary magazines, yup: Mississippi has 'em.
Sure, if it's country music or conservative politics you're seeking, Mississippi has that too, but whatever the politics, I found Mississippians to be especially friendly.

im not disputing that its a good event and i have nothing against dancing. i guess i have a different meaning of important. i mean its not like if a certain dancer wins then it unlocks a cure for cancer. its really only important for the dancer. now, i stated MY OPINION, so lets not get into this.
