Anywhere for a white person with straight hair to get a haircut around here? I know that Jackson is like 95% black and that they pretty much run Jackson but is there a place where white people can get a haircut around here? All I see are barbershops and they don't know how to use scissors. I just need a regular old haircut from a chain, I don't need anything fancy. Thanks!

You know what? It's funny you mention this. I love where I live but the ONE thing I miss most of all is getting a haircut from my favorite mexican barber. I love a good haircut, but I have not found a decent barber since I left LA. And no I'm not talking about fru-fru; the barber I went to was all about machismo and making a man look like a man who respects himself. It's part of the culture - mexican culture has much more "old school" attitudes about certain things. He'd do the hot towel treatment and the straight razor shave around my goatee and I'd leave there looking like freakin' Sgt Rock.

If you are in jackson proper, look for a mexican barber with a full waiting room on sunday morning. You ain't had a good cut til you've visited a good mexican barber.

I normally don't answer questions that are laced with racist undertones, but I'm in a good mood today.

Although Jackson's population is predominantly black, 28% is white, which means there are app. 49,000 whites who live in Jackson, which also means that Jackson has more whites than any of the "white" suburbs surrounding it. So, you should have no problem finding a "white" salon. Try Barnette's located in Banner Hall.

I WILL be looking for a fru fru place to get a haircut when I move there soon. I also get my hair highlighted. So to piggy back on the OP's thread, does anyone know of a fru fru place that maybe isn't quite SO pricey (I pay $200 for a cut and highlights and blow dry here in s florida). Thanks!

Lacey's Salon on Lakeland Drive is good and affordable. Barnette's in Banner Hall is considered the best in town by many, but it's also cost more (if you make an appointment with one of the top stylists that is). Literally, there are tons of salons/boutiques to choose from.

How racist can you be ?! I know I'm extremely late responding , but I saw this comment and was in shock. I am African-American and I get my hair cut, colored, and styled by a Caucasian women (who I love and is GREAT !!!) There are numerous salons and places to have your hair cut and done that IS NOT A BARBERSHOP. I also know some African-American women who can cut very well with scissors but obviously you've never tried .. It's about the work that's done not the color of the person doing the work ...And I'm pretty sure your percentage is wrong

Really shocking how someone can request for service information based on ethnicity. It's unnecessary.
I graduated from Aveda Institute and yes, I'm African American. I can scissor, razor, clipper, color, and style all HAIR TEXTURES. I think many stylist would like for their services to be reviewed based on technique and service ability rather than ethnical background. All stylist have their own expertise and should be chosen based on that. SMH!
