We are moving to Jax, specifically Atlantic Beach area 2 miles from Hanna Park. I've read on-line some comments regarding Mayport Rd. being a bad area. We already have a place to move to and now I'm concerned. Can someone tell me whether or not we are in a crime-ridden area?

Thanks bunches!

I wouldn't feel unsafe in that area. I don't think it's dangerous. However it's considered a bad area because it's relatively junky and run-down for a beachfront community. There are still some trailer parks and cruddy businesses lining Mayport road. It's not crime-ridden so much as that parts of Mayport road look gross.

If you were comfortable with what the neighborhood looked like when you visited, then I wouldn't worry about it. (If you are moving to a place sight-unseen ... don't do that. Stay in an extended stay hotel for a week or two while you apartment hunt.)
