I, too, am considering moving there, from Southern Illinois. I have an interview on Thursday, and if all goes well, I just may become a Florida resident soon. I see apartments and such for rent, and they say they are on the Southside or beaches. What street coordinates or landmarks are considered the Southside? This would help me figure out where to look. Can anyone help?

ahh yeah Illinois relocations gonna give NJ a run for their money.

The best I understand the Southside to be is this on a map.
this is a boundry idea I will probably be wrong but close. The locals will jump on me but they can get over it.
I-95 East to the Ocean
The Northern boundry is iffy in my opinion some would say Atlantic Blvd but I would say Beach Blvd and there are some sketch areas in there.
Anything along JTB towards the beach is good.
When you hit 9A that probably best defines the Southern border of the Southside. If you follow 9A (turns into 295) to the west until you hit the Bridge that whole area is pretty nice. Wait until Riveree chimes in she knows best and will tell me why I am wrong.

Ha Ha Lawstudent ! You got it!

Another easy way to think of it is this:

Looking at a map of the city, find the big river - the Saint Johns.

The Saint Johns River flows north into downtown, then turns east and head out to the sea (it flows north.....like the nile .

Everything that is both south and east of the river is the general "Southside" of the city.

So the river divides Jacksonville into a "Southside", "Northside" and "Westside" (there's no "Eastside" !).

Once you see where the three big regions are, each region can be broken down further into neighborhoods.

What confuses things is that there is a large area that doesn't have a real neighborhood "name", so it just ends up being called "The Southside". In the last few years, chunks of this area have started to develop names of their own such as "Intracoastal West", "Gate Parkway", etc., so we're getting some more differentiation now.

Some major roads to help map it out/get you in the vicinity would be:

9A
I95
San Jose Blvd
JTB (John Turner Butler Blvd)
Atlantic Blvd
Beach Blvd
Kernan Blvd
Baymeadows Road
Southside Blvd

We used to live in Pensacola while I was in the Navy, we lived on Bayou Blvd and found it to be convenient to everything.
