Does anyone know anything about the overhead power lines that run next to and through parts of Deercreek? We are looking at houses in there and are not used to seeing overhead lines. Is it anything to be concerned about?

There has been debate as to the health risks of living near power lines for years, however something you should consider before purchasing a home is that power lines devalue property. If you are concerned about this now and haven't even moved into the house, imagine waking up to that everyday. When you go to sell your house you'll get less for it. Keep looking, you CAN find homes in Jacksonville with underground power lines.

Concern, yes. It's definitely not good for resale. Some people won't buy a house near big power lines. However, it's not any different than other negatives associated with a house, bad floor plan, neighborhood, schools, on a busy street, crappy neighbors, etc, etc,. We just bought a house right next to big power lines. We weighed the mostly good against the partly bad and the good won.

As far as health risks, who really knows. Personally, I did a little research before we bought the place and I don't think it's a problem. If it caused serious health problems, power companies would be getting their butts sued off by the tens of thousands of people that live near big power lines getting sick. It would be a huge deal. I'm not aware of any such huge deal.

Good house hunting.

Well, it doesn't devalue the property any more than it already has been when it was originally built. It just makes it a little harder to sell.

Also, they debunked the myth about the health issues years ago but some people still try and push the issue.

They're ugly, that's for sure, there is no health risk which has been proven.

Something also to be aware of. Some overhead cables emit noise. Sounds almost like a raging river. Some are very quiet and some sound like an annoying fly depending on your sensitivity to sound.

We have very high voltage running close by and it really gets loud, it's mostly when theres moisture or dew on the lines. Makes you think about electrical emmision though.

I have heard that noise coming from lines, but ours are quiet. If you're concered about the noise and serious about possibly moving near lines, just go by when there's dew or after it rains and listen.

In my opinion, power lines and the electro magnetic fields they produce would be a major health concern to me. I've worked for a major telephone company for 30 years and we take precaution to prolonged exposure from EMF's. If I had a choice I would not buy a home in close proximity to power lines. I am assuming you are talking about high voltage power lines those that transmit power across large distances.

You have to consider what can happen to those lines during the storms.
