Hi all,
My b/f and I are considering (strongly) moving to Jacksonville. He's been recently medically sep'd from the military and we both have friends IN Jax. I am originally from southern FL. My kids are grown and gone and have nothing holding us where we are currently.

It's just us. I'm an administrative assistant / personnel, finishing up a four year contract job for the military. He will be going to school full time (still working on that)
And we're looking at moving in / around June. I do plan on coming down and job hunting ahead of time as I'm not too keen on coming down without a job but his school does provide a housing allowance so we're not coming down completely unprepared.

I would like honest opinions of what areas we should completely avoid living and what areas we want to be in.

I have friends in Orange Park, they seem to like living there and he has friends further up by the state line.

We just want to live in a good mix of people, diverse. We don't want to live in a city-feel area but don't want to be stranded way out in the country either. We will be househunting for a single family home for rent (there seems to be a lot on the market) and neither of us like apartment living, and don't require much else. I guess I should also mention we are a mixed couple, (I'm white, he's black) and I've heard some good and some bad about some areas already.. I would just like us to blend in and not be bothered, ya know?

I don't mind having upwards of an hour long commute either if that puts us in a decent area.

Thoughts??

Default You might want to take a look in St. Augustine Beach and check us out. Small but has lots to offer and less hassel.

The location of your job and where he will be attending school will have a huge influence on where you will want to live. I wouldn't get too in depth deciding on a place to live until the job and school situation are decided. Best wishes on your move.

I love the SA beach area but there can be traffic issues with the Bridge of Lions making you have to travel south to the fixed span bridge which cna make it a long commute to Jax
There are some good communites a few miles out of Stg Augustine where you can buy new build 2000 sq feet under 200k

The only areas that would make you feel "funny" about being a mxed couple are those that are prodominantly wealthy or rural.

Most of Jacksonville is neither, so you should be ok.
