I have been looking for a hotel to no avail. We need a hotel on the beach that will allow pets. A 96 pound lab to be exact.Everyone only accepts small pets ,they want to put you in a smoking room or their rates are outrageous. A cabin in a campground would be acceptable. TIA

Consider renting a motor home and staying in a campground. The campground up in Vilano beach is nice and across the street from the beach. I don't really know of any other campgrounds down there. Anastasia State Park used to allow camping, I'm not sure if they still allow it though its been years.

Anastasia State Park has camp sites but they are booked solid at least one year ahead as are all the other campgrounds on the beach during the summer months. The same applies to hotels, motels and condos on the beach who will allow larger pets. St. Augustine is a very popular beach destination and accommodations allowing any pets at all are at a premium. Those allowing larger pets are almost non-existent and command a high rental fee, as you have found. If you are staying for a week or longer, I would try looking at the single family listings under www.vrbo.com (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link) (vacation rental by owner). The ones accepting pets can be sorted in a search. There are also some travel websites that are geared specifically to dog owners. Try a google search to find them. Most condo HOA rules prohibit pets being housed on their property by renters. Wish I had better news for you.
