Got it checked in April came homew from vacation today and the temp inside the house was 82 with the thermostat set at 80. Seems weird but I have no shade on the house from 11ish to 6.

95+ degrees outside in full sun makes tough work for any AC. Keep your ceiling fans running, is all I can say. Ours can keep up with 79 degrees setting.

I had a new hvac installed recently..the tech said no unit can keep up when it is 100 degrees....it has been 98-100 here amd while I have all fans on, it can manage only 75 or so w/a setting of 70...worse in the afternoon of course. And no shade here either...

My air conditioner here can get the house down to 65 degrees on the hottest days. No insulation but I have a "green roof". It is part solar and part compressor. My parent's home has a homemade central air but their home is shaded by trees with a white gravel roof. The neighbors stupid enough to cut down all trees and have shingle roofs have huge air conditioners to keep up with the heat. None of those homes get as cool as mom and dad's place. My former home in Key Largo has an air conditioner I got from a doctor's office that was demolished to build a condo. Like all the systems in my family it uses well water to cool the condenser.

I think that tech was full of it. Our system (replaced our old one about 6 years ago) can get the house below 70 if it's 100 outside (our old one could do that too before it died). And we don't have any trees shading the house (I don't like things that can fall on the house too close to the house). Or ceiling fans either.
First thing to check - is your system sized properly for your house?
Then check out your duct work. A lot of contractors here are very sloppy when it comes to making sure duct work is sealed properly and doesn't leak. Another thing is check is whether your attic has proper insulation. Also - check your vents (are they open - pointing in the right direction - etc.). Also check window and door frames for leaks.
Finally - if you have big expanses of glass that get direct sun - make sure you have window coverings that reduce the heat from those windows. Robyn
