I live in Fernandina and don't get to Jax that often. Would like some suggestions for good sushi. I recently tried Yashi Sushi. -a quaint place at Southside and Gate Parkway. Good sushi and friendly staff.

Your very welcome, now I need some advice from you. I have been hearing about a place up there in Fernandina called Hana Sushi. Is it worth me driving an hour or so to try out? Any help would be appreciated.

I've only been Hana Sushi once and thought it was OK. However, I really wasn't I feeling the best before I went so I probably need to try it again to be fair.

If you happen to like Thai food there is an exceptional Thai place just off the island, in a fairly nondescript strip mall just over the bridge on the Yulee side. I've been consistently impressed with their food. I'm addicted to their Shrimp Phad Thai.

I have seen Lana Thai before when we go up that way to dinner at Barbara Jeans up there and to Cotton Eyed Joes on Saturday night's to party with some friends. I have never really tried any Thai food. I can't find anyone who really wants to try it. Every time I ask someone to go they all seem afraid of it because of the heat. I guess I need to go by myself at least once and give it a try. Just trust the people there to make good suggestions. I like spicy food, though not to extreme.

I've been to some of the above (Yashi, Sushi Rock, etc.). Here are the ones I recommend trying:

Kobe Sushi (San Jose area)

A little over the top in their presentation, but excellent sushi and nice atmosphere, big restaurant. I especially like their $20-all-you-can-eat nights
Here's a link (there's music):

Kobe Japanese Restaurant

Crazy Sushi (Tinseltown area)

I've been going here forever. Small place, usually packed, always good. Staff is moderately friendly.

Crazy Sushi Japanese Restaurant : Jacksonville, Florida : Southside

Phillip Sushi (Southside - just north of Avenues Mall and Regal theater)

Great sushi, good price, staff is okay (good thing I'm there for the food!)

(music again...)

I like sushi a lot but don't think I can give a super recommendation to any place in particular. Most of the ones listed above I think are ok or good.

As for thai, madcap, I definitely recommend you try! Lots of pretty good places, but I'd start with Lemongrass or Pattaya Thai both on Baymeadows. Most restaurants serve their dishes very mild, unless you specifically request otherwise.
