Can anyone recommend a photographer who would be avaialable to take some photos on the beach next weekend? My college kids are coming home, and I'd love to get a Christmas photo! Nothing fancy, just some interesting black and whites.
thank you!

Do you mean a professional or a really good amateur? Who would consider doing it just for expenses, to build his portfolio?

I'd be fine with someone who wasn't a professional and wanted to build his portfolio!

You should contact Mark Penington, he's well know around town for wedding photography.

If you want B&W please request that the photographer use film, not digital. Also request that the prints be made in a darkroom if possible, not inkjet printed like digital.

I'm a photographer based in New Mexico (been haunting the Florida forums because we want to move there), and trust me, digital is fine for color but hopeless for B&W. Oh, it may look OK on a computer monitor, but we're talking prints here, and even in these modern times digital looks pretty bad compared to film. The tonal range of film is far superior. Most of the so called "pros" use digital because they shoot color, and it's cheaper and faster to get a print that way. But if you want real B&W, film is always going to be better. You won't regret it. To me, a professional photographer is someone that produces professional results, so don't pay too much attention to labels like amateur and pro. These days, a pro is someone that shoots weddings and studio portraits, and that's mostly it. They're interested in turnaround times. A good film photographer is what you want.

My buddy's site, if you're interested. I think he's done many beach shoots.

I'm sorry, not sure where you're getting this. I've seen lots and lots of digital b&w prints and they look fine as long as they were created properly. Are there some things about film which can be better than digital? Yes, however, for the most part, those differences are very hard to spot--especially to untrained eyes. Digital is fine for b&w as well as color. If it wasn't, you wouldn't see any b&w shot with digital in any of the big magazines yet they're in them all of the time...

I'm also a photographer (www.facebook.com/farmerfotography) based here in Jacksonville. I'm more than happy to discuss what you'd like to do and see if I can help. (GadgetRick at gmail.com)

Thanks a bunch. I appreciate it. Still learning--always learning--and trying to improve.

I use Facebook more than my personal website a I have to do a major restructure on the website.

Ok, enough self-promotion.
