The main FDOT office is near Stockton and !-10 so anything in the Riverside, Springfield area would be cool. Plus another nice area to consider would be Murry Hill. As for Latino neighborhoods in Jax I am not to familiar with any per se.

Find out for yourself if renting is "almost impossible" with the dogs. If you are well qualified financially you have an advantage over most renters these days. Make some calls on your own to see for yourself. Be careful, agents will make $1000's if you buy, only hundreds or nothing if you rent so of course they want you to buy. You may not like Florida, many think they will but find it's not for them so over 1000 a day are leaving FL. You may regret where you buy or the home itself. Rent first, learn and when you know for sure, buy. With the way things are now, buying a home may be a marriage that you can't get a divorce from no matter how bad things get.

An article just published says that Florida will need to cut another 2 billion+ next year. They don't want to raise taxes so what gov't jobs will be cut?

If you do move to Jax (our short for Jacksonville ) be aware that the west side is famous for it's crime rate and the city is laying off cops to meet budget requirements so it will probably get worse. Anywhere else is ok but crime can happen anywhere, as we all know. Good luck.

Be also aware that the west side basically refers to the area immediately west of the urban core out about 5 miles to I-295 and in no way includes any of the rural Greater West County area's like Baldwin or Crystal Springs or even Whitehouse, which probably have less crime than anywhere on the north, or south sides of Jax. (due to less density, fewer people per sq. mile) Also be careful of blanket statements about areas, as all areas of Jax are very diverse.
