There are so many options to live in/around Jacksonville... Can you provide more specifics towards what you are looking for? Budget, rural or urban, what you want to be close to etc.... Jacksonville is over 850 square miles...

Since there are so many attractive options I always recommend getting something close to where you will be working...

Overall the public schools are not as good as most other states... If you research enough though you can find a place to live that will put your kids through a solid school system...

Is jacksonville a good place to raise kids?

No, high crime, bad schools and lots of drugs.

How are the schools?

Some of the worst in the country. Especially in DUVAL county.

No way in hell would I move here unless you have family here espeically with out a job because the economy is the pits here (as in a lot of other places as well).

Jacksonville used to be a quiet sprawled out town with a very low cost of living but that just is not jacksonville anymore.

(ha)....umm......parks71 likes to exaggerrate apparently.

the only good advice from him was that, unless you are finanically secure, you shouldn't move without having a job first. it's hard to find a good job in jacksonville right now, in most fields (not all).

there are plenty of great schools, plenty under 200k.

the vast mjaority of crime is drug crime, and happens in certain areas. of course, nowhere is completly safe, but unless you are involved in illegal activities or live in dangerous area of town then you don't have much to worry about.

narrowing down where you're gonna work is the first step, as you'll prolly want to live reasonabley near your work. There are plenty of great schools for kids with a LD.....here's a link to the latest school "grades": http://www.duvalschools.org/reseval/...ch%20Alpha.pdf

I'm always in favor of the older, historic neigjborhoods that surrond Downtown (walkable, lots of arts & parks, the river, city events, lots of unique restaurants & shops), so i have a lot of info on those if you it.

Yes, exaggerating a lot........without a doubt!!! And, if the economy is so much "in the pits" as you say, then why in the "H" is the parking lots at Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse so darn FULL on Thursday-Friday-Saturday nights?? And, on the weekends The Avenues Mall parking lot is so FULL of cars!!!! Obviously people are spending money!!
As far as the employment situation here, do have to agree with you on that, but the other things..........."I don't think so!!"

Jax is decent, but if you are looking to relocate to the southeast, there are definitely better choices.
