The crime rate has substantially dropped since the 90's, when it peaked.

Last year and the year before marked the FIRST time Jacksonville recorded under 100 murders. Pretty good for a city of 820,000.

The Ambulance-Homicide Theory

"... Research published this year suggests that the most significant factor in keeping the homicide rate down is something much more practical: faster ambulances and better care in the emergency room ... Harris stumbled upon this simple idea after years of trying to figure out why the aggravated-assault rate skyrocketed by several hundred percent over the past four decades, while the murder rate has remained flat ..."

It may be better, but crime in jacksonville is still bad.

Unless one of those "under 100" is a family member or friend.

It's really only 'bad' if you get mixed up with 'bad' people...if you mind your own business...you'll pretty much get left alone...

I want people to continue to think the N side of town is bad...that way conjestion won't come over this way...I love the long, quite, unconjested streets at night or late evening, compared to other parts of town...

Let all the scared yuppies continue to huddle together on the beach and Southside...and keep the conjestion and million traffic lights that way...

But for the acute, they'll start to notice $300,000 homes going up around the edges of 295 and vicinity, and nice apartment complexes...shhh...

If you live somewhere where you think crime is bad, then I'd advise moving. The vast majority of Jax doesn't have an unusually hight crime rate. Most the problems are in known, chronically bad areas.

Yes, thank you, I'm aware of that. I think the problem is there are too many of those areas. Hopefully, the local economy will improve soon and crime will do the same. Just because we're #2 in the state in murder rate, slightly behind Dade County, doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned about it.

The stretch of 95N from Dunn Ave to the airport area is sooooo quiet. Very little to no traffic at night/late evening.
